As of today, Ryce Travel is a member of 1% for the Planet. They provide direct investment to address global environmental problems. They ask each member company to dedicate 1% of their sales to issues such as climate change and environmental pollution. We are aware that winter sports travel is a delicate dance with the climate. Certainly CO2 emissions from cat skiing and local transportation is a major issue.
Therefore, we have decided to contribute 1% of our sales to support local carbon offset projects. We are going to set up these projects largely on our own. It is aimed at educating young people in Kyrgyzstan, Georgia and Kosovo. They will work with affiliates to provide forest plantings. Companies and organizations have direct lines of communication with scholars. The children keep the company informed of progress. The reason for this approach is twofold.
- The companies know that the money is getting to the right place
- Local school students learn English and gain knowledge about climate change
We are tremendously excited to be registered as a partner with 1% for the planet. Want to read more about this project. Then click on this link.
1% for the planet was founded by Patagonia. We find Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard’s comment insanely apt: “This is not philanthropy. This should be a cost of doing business. It’s paying rent for our use of the planet.”
