Gudauri (გუდაური) is the largest, fastest growing and most modern ski resort in all of Georgia. The ski area is about a two-hour drive from the capital Tbilisi. A trip along the Georgian Military Highway, a winding route through the rugged Georgian landscape. More on this

And yes, this is also the area with the weird ski lift that went crazy. But hey, don’t let that pull you off. The lift was manufactured by Doppelmayer and it’s totally safe again. We’re happy to show you, adventurer.

In a nutshell

  • 120 kilometers from Tbilisi
  • top lift at 3267m
  • bottom lift at 1998m
  • 1 funpark with a halfpipe
  • Season from December till April
  • New connection to the backside at Kobi

New gondolas

Longer

Gudauri is a popular year-round destination with its sun-drenched terrain. In the summer you can go hiking and mountain biking. Also in winter, the possibilities are endless: from heli-skiing and paragliding to guided ski tours, Gudauri doesn’t disappoint. The area has about ten lifts and more than 75 kilometers of groomed slopes. That may sound modest, but besides that, an almost infinite freeride extends. Off we go.

In 2019 a new ski lift opened on the backside of Gudauri. To the small village of Kobi. These gondolas make a huge freeride terrain accessible for skiing. Not all slopes are groomed so you have to be carefull where you are going. There’s even a new project to extend to ski resort in the direction of Mount Kazbegi. This will further grow the ski resort of Gudauri. It will also compete with European resorts in terms of kilometers of slopes. But we are not sure if the visitor numbers will grow along with the ski resort. Especially if the relationship with Russia won’t improve.
