On Friday, Nov. 25, 2022, the Tuschinski Theatre will host the Freeride Film Festival. The annual event is organized by wePowder. The best ski and snowboard films will be shown in multiple rooms throughout the evening. This year’s edition will feature our film of the Silk Road Freeride competition. This film called “Silk Ride” centers on the first freeride competition in Central Asia. This one took place in the village of Jyrgalan, Kyrgyzstan
Central Asia has excellent terrain for freeriding. Especially in the east, against the border of China, precipitation is enormous. The foothills of the Himalayas provide a unique geological setting. The west side has a dry continental climate but lakes such as Issyk Kul and Kapchagai provide a microclimate with significantly more snowfall. The region fell into oblivion after the fall of the Soviet Union. Fortunately, there we can have competitions like this one, improving the prominence of Central Asia.
Right after the competition, the corona epidemic overtook us. Then the Freeride Film Fest in Amsterdam was canceled twice. We are therefore enormously pleased that the film “Silk Ride” is now premiering. Do you want to be there? Then check the Freeride Film Festival website for tickets. Tickets are available starting at €25. See you soon!
